Frequently asked questions

How to find a plumber near me?

This is one of the most common questions on Google, fortunately if you're in or near Bristol and reading this you've already found us, but for anyone seeing this outside of our working area you need to keep searching. We recommend to start with finding a company through word of mouth. Talk to friends and family about who they would recommend that they've used before. That way you'll get a good idea on what it was like to work with them and how much they charge. Next would be using platforms such as Checkatrade, Rated People, Which? or any other similar website. These sites will have genuine customer reviews and some even vet the company to ensure they are working to the standards set by the assessor. Using search engines such as Google, Bing or Facebook would be the next way. Always be cautious and ensure that whoever you're using looks professional, they're open and honest with their pricing and can provide customer reviews. Check out our articles for more information How to find a plumber near me or What to look for when hiring a plumber

How much does it cost to hire a good, reliable plumber?

The answer to this question can vary depending on the size of the business and type of company you're looking to deal with. Some smaller "one man band" businesses may charge less than a larger company with overheads, VAT etc. At The Bearded Plumber we are very open with our pricing which can be found on our terms and conditions page of our website. Here we explain our pricing structure and set prices for specific task. Our hourly rate for a tradesmen within working hours is £66 for the first hour then £48 per hour charged every half hour e.g. 2.5 hours would cost £138. Our day rate for a tradesmen within working hours is £336 based on a standard 8 hour day. More specifically a boiler service would cost £78 no matter how long the service takes i.e. not hourly.

Do I have to get my boiler serviced every year?

The short answer would be yes. Much like your car, your boiler is a machine that is used daily and requires a yearly service to ensure it's working efficiently. Not only does this keep your energy bills down it also decreases the likelihood of your boiler breaking down and avoiding expensive repair bills. For more information check out the importance of servicing your boiler on our articles section.

Can I do my own plumbing on my house?

Yes you can, if it's your own home and not a rental you can do what ever you like to the plumbing system in your home. You cannot however install gas appliances or alter gas pipework. That being said, we highly recommend you hiring a professional. It may seem like you're saving money by "doing it yourself" but the consequences of getting something wrong, which is highly likely if you're not trained, would cost much, much more than it would hiring someone to do it for you. There are some things you can do which have minimal consequences which we've written up in our guide found here 5 ways to prevent plumbing problems in your home. This articles explains a few things you can do, or should do to help with your homes plumbing and heating system.

How can I remodel my bathroom on a budget?

This really depends on the extremeties of the remodelling of your bathroom. Are you simply wanting to replace the items in there, such as the bath, toilet and basin. Or do you want to move them around the room, replace the tiles, maybe even install new lighting? Depending on how much you want to change will alter the costs either way. Think about the reason why you're renovating, is it simply to sell on, or do you intend to live in the house for a long time? The best thing to do is to seek the help of a professional, a designer or a project manager that can make the most of the budget available. Try and avoid doing any work without a set plan and design in mind. For more information check out our article 5 tips for your new bathroom or contact us for a chat.

FINDING A PLUMBER

Finding a plumber can be a stressful and long process if you don't know where to look.

There are soo many companies out there and so many ways to advertise a job or search for the right person to do the job you're looking for.

Finding a plumber needn't be hard, simply use the tips we suggest in the following article when looking for any tradesperson and you'll be on the right track.

WHAT'S A PLUMBERS HOURLY RATE?

It's always good to know how much you're going to pay for something before you buy it.

Our plumber hourly rate is simple, we charge £55 for the first hour, then £40 per hour, or £20 per half hour. So for example if we were to do a job that took 1hr 20 mins it would cost £75.  If a job took 1hr 40 mins its  would cost £95.
Our price structure can also be found on our terms and conditions linked below.

HOW TO POWER FLUSH YOUR CENTRAL HEATING SYSTEM

We use something called an Adey MagnaCleanse to power flush a central heating system.

It is effective and quick, it utilities your boilers pump to flush the cleaning solution around your central heating system, one radiator at a time and then collects the magnetite in it's cylindrical tubes with an industrial magnet.

To power flush your central heating system you need to use the right cleaning solution, go through each radiator individually and flush he system through thoroughly before adding inhibitor in, to prevent a build up in the future.
